As an associate producer of the feature documentary film “A Haunted Past” by the Tunisian director/producer Fatma Riahi, Muhammad Refaat attended IDFA in Amsterdam. The film was selected to IDFA Best First Appearance Competition.
Carthage 2018 - Panelist & Decision-Maker
Chabaka welcomes duets of African and Arab producers and directors with feature fiction and documentary film projects in the development stage. This workshop is the first step in the creation of cinematographic works. Chabaka offers selected participants the opportunity to meet industry professionals in one-on-one meetings.
Muhammad Refaat participated in Chabaka for the first time in 2018 as a commissioning editor from AJD. He had to opportunity to meet several projects from emerging African and Arab producers.
Arab Animation Forum Stuttgart - Producer
As a producer of the short animated project “Chained Prey”, Muhammad Refaat attended the forum where he pitched in front of the German producers and the Robert Bosch Stiftung Committee.
Qumra 2018 - Director/Producer

Since 2015, Qumra has been a one-of-a-kind professional incubator crucial to the success of filmmakers from the Arab world and beyond.
In 2018, Muhammad Refaat participated in his short animated film project “Chained Prey” as a director/producer.
EURODOC - Observer
The primary mission of EURODOC is the organization of a yearly training program for producers with a creative documentary project in the development stage. It is also open to professionals involved in the support of documentary film production.
As an Observer, Muhammad Refaat attended the three sessions in the UK, Italy and Switzerlands.
Rotterdam Arab Film Festival - Writer
At Rotterdam Arab Film Festival 2018, Cinephilia Shorts Lab was held as a 2-week writing program designed to assist filmmakers in developing their storytelling potential, criticism faculty, and technical proficiency. Cinephilia Shorts Lab aims to develop original, visionary, and daring voices in the art of screenwriting from the Middle East and Africa.
The lab offers the tools that result in a strong narrative short film while focusing on the individual's unique voice as a screenwriter and connecting like-minded people through shared collaborative feedback.
Muhammad Refaat received The Best Screenplay Award for his short film screenplay, Chained Prey.
ISFF Hollywood - Filmmaker
The International Student Film Festival Hollywood offers student filmmakers from all over the world a unique opportunity to gain the recognition of film industry leaders, creating career development opportunities in their home countries as well as in the United States.
